As a deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, he has served Lutheran parishes in Colorado, Illinois, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. Filbert’s scholarly articles have been published in Reformed Liturgy and Music, The American Organist, and The Hymn. As a Life Member of The Hymn Society in the US and Canada, he has been a featured performer and/or workshop presenter at four national conferences, and as an active member of the American Guild of Organists, he has served as Sub-Dean, Dean, and Grant Writer for the Denver Chapter. In addition, he works closely with Colorado ABC (Advocates for Body Autonomy and Children's Rights), an organization promoting genital autonomy for children and adults throughout the world.
